Ivory Coast’s RHDP party claims victory in parliamentary elections
Voter turnout was recorded at 35.04% among the 8.5 million registered voters. The main opposition, the Democratic Party of Côte d’Ivoire–African Democratic Rally (PDCI-RDA), won 32 seats, while independent candidates claimed 23. Smaller parties, including The Ox – Victory for Development, secured a single seat each.
The commission noted some isolated incidents of violence, particularly in Marcory commune, where ballot boxes at five polling stations were destroyed. However, officials stated that these events did not affect the overall integrity of the election.
Under the electoral code, candidates and political parties have five days to file complaints, which will be reviewed before the final results are confirmed by the country’s top court in the coming days.
The parliamentary vote follows the October presidential election, which saw incumbent President Alassane Ouattara re-elected. Former President Laurent Gbagbo’s African Peoples’ Party – Côte d’Ivoire (PPA-CI) boycotted the parliamentary election, citing that conditions for free and credible polls had not been met.
